Maui Day 10 - Hana

We hit the road at 8:30 am ish. It is a long way around the eastern part of the island and as usual Breyden had 2 days planned for 1. We just couldn't do it all in one day and though he was disappointed,  we fit in a lot of local stops! Breyden kept saying is was just a dream to share all of this with his family after living here for almost 7 years.
Our first few stops were just pullouts to see the views,  but we also got a taste of the weather. It was WINDY. It was supposed to rain all day in Hana so we expected some light rain.
Our 3rd stop was a short hike to a waterfall.  From the road,  it doesn't look like much to tourists, but the locals all know where the best waterfalls are.
This time only Breyden,  Jennie,  and Adam got in.  It was deep and cold!
Did I mention Denali is a spider monkey that scrambles and climbs over rocks like they are nothing? She managed to go around the pool and behind the falls into a cavern without getting wet!
Adam liked jumping in and getting a massage from the waterfall.
I sent Paxton some pictures of the gekkos at our next stop.  He loves seeing the bugs and animals we encounter. Too bad we didn't get pictures of the giant cockroaches on Big Island. Lol! He saw these and said, "Ooh, a green one!!"
This was at the Haleakula National Park on the other side of the volcano, there is a big waterfall that goes into the ocean. There is a campground there as well.
After we walked to the waterfall and back,  the girls were exhausted. The jet skis were so fun,  but we were really, really sore (and menstrual)! So we decided it was time for a lunch stop. Breyden brought a charcoal grill and we grilled chicken brats and watched the waves crash and the storm move over the water to Hana. Which was where we were heading.
You can see the rain over the water. It really just missed us! And there was a part rainbow on the clouds.
In the photo below, I took a panorama of the rain in the trees and the blue sky over us. We were so lucky that it went around us. I was trying to keep things packed up and ready to run if we needed to,  but Adam said I was making everyone nervous so I had to sit down.

Our next stop was Red Sands Beach in Hana. We drive through some small misty storms but nothing too bad.  Our luck was holding out.
The wind was blowing so the waves were crashing. As we were trying to time the swells, Adam dove in. Then it started pouring down and we all tried to scramble for cover,  but there wasn't any! So everyone ran into the water anyway. I obviously didn't. I brought a rain jacket! Lol!
By the time we left,  it was close to sunset. We decided to call it a day and go back the way we came. Hopefully we will get to the second half of that side of the island another day.
We still had people in the back of the truck, but now everything and everyone was soaked! They couldn't even cover up with towels because they got soaked.  (Kinley and I wrung  ours out, and Adam and Breyden couldn't believe how much water came out!)
Anyway, they were completely frozen when we got back to the Safeway to pick up Jen's car. But they took some great photos of the sunset and stars.
Oh yeah,  Brin lost Adams Dunder Miflin hat too. The wind took.
This week is supposed to be huge for meteor showers so we keep watching the sky.
