Big Island Day 2 - Southpoint

We started out a little later. We only a  had an hour and a half drive to Southpoint Park. It is the most southern point in the United States.  Not to be confused with the most southwest point of the continental US at Imperial Beach in California.
We all donned our new Hawaiian garb and suits, packed our lunch and headed out. I was on the phone with Pax but I lost service, so I sent a goodbye picture.
Did I mention Denali has been riding in the very back this whole time? She has pillows and a cushion so Brin and Hydee keep offering to ride back there,  but she is happy.
The water was so blue and clear! Adam and Denali decided to climb down the lava cliffs. We took pictures while waiting for them.
According to the map, we were not quite to the southern tip, we had a Jeep so we decided to 4wd it down farther. It looked like it was a popular to atv. Lots of trails!
We went as far as we dared and then walked to one point, but the map wouldn't align so we walked to another point,  but it didn't seem as south as the other so we went back again.. over the lava rock and the coral.
Adam loved the tinkling sound the coral made as the water pulled it back down the shore.
Adam's  favorite tree. The wind blows them all over.  The roots are up on the other side,  but strong on the opposite side.
My favorite tree looks like an updide down pine only soft like a fern.
A local coffee farm opened up their property to tourists. They had a store, parrots, an art gallery and a map of the farm so you could walk around.  We bought 3 bags of chocolate and more smoothies. Then we talked to the  parrots. Lani put on a real show for me!
Next we headed to Ho'okena beach for sunset. It was a black  sand beach with lots of tide pools in the lava rock. The sunset was AMAZING!! It lasted for an hour.  It was dark driving home,  but the sky was still colorful.
