Find Your Spark 2021

We lived in Vernal for our second year of our Back to School Girls Camp so we stayed in the rustic tipi at the KOA. The theme was Find Your Spark! Based off of the Disney movie Soul.

 My Favorite quotes:  "We only have a short time on this planet. You want to become the person that you were born to be. Don't waste your time on all the junk of life. Spend your precious hours doing what will bring out the real you. The brilliant Passionate you, that's ready to contribute to something meaningful into this world."

"Your spark isn't your purpose. That last box fills in when you're ready to come live."

 The other quotes that inspired me were, "Knowest thou not that thou art a spark of Deity, struck from the fire of His eternal blaze, and brought forth in the midst of eternal burnings?" Pres. John Taylor

 "Be with those who ignite the spark in you, and be the spark that ignites a flame in the lives of others." Namrata Kharat.

I based my theme off of Pres. Uchtdorf's talk, On Being Genuine Apr. 2015. he said 

"With patience and persistence, even the smallest act of discipleship or the tiniest ember of belief can become a blazing bonfire of a consecrated life. In fact, that’s how most bonfires begin—as a simple spark." 

We focused on being ourselves and not trying to be who we think others want us to be. My girls all suffer from social anxiety and I wanted to help them to be true to themselves despite what others may think. We created our own Earth Pass based on who we think we are.

Kinley taught our camp certification lessons. Second years learned how to identify cloud formations, purify water, signal for help, find directions from the sun and stars, first aid for shock, heat stroke/exhaustion, and frostbite, identify poisonous plants and edible plants, proper knife cleaning and care, build 2 types of fires, and participate in a 5-mile hike.

     

The last night we had a Bad Habits Bonfire where we wrote down the things we wanted to change about ourselves and threw them into the fire, roasted s'mores, and lit sparklers.

As always, we ended our camp by applying how to put a spark back into our education, back-to-school photos, and father's interviews and blessings.
