Week 9 Entrepreneurship Disciple Learning

I have read Elder Bednar's talk before and I really love the perspective he gives me. Looking at my schooling as preparation for being a disciple of Christ makes it seem so much more important than just getting an education so that I can make money.
"disciple is one who follows or attends upon another for the express purpose of learning (Oxford English Dictionary On-Line, second edition, 1989). Please note that a disciple both follows and learns,"
The word preparation implies the process of making or getting ready; the previous putting or setting in order for any action or purpose.
BYUIdaho, brothers and sisters, is a temple of learning.
In both the House of the Lord and in the temples of learning, a standard of worthiness must be met in order to enter and to learn what is being taught. in both the holy temple and in temples of learning, a significant personal commitment is linked to the learning process. In both the House of the Lord and in a temple of learning, as a result of what we experience and what we learn and what we feel, we then strive to heed a higher standard. That is the outcome and the result of what we learn.

This perspective helps me to remember how important learning is and how I can use it to become a better disciple of Christ will determine what I will do with my education.

People like Rowan—who accomplish missions quickly and efficiently, with minimum oversight—are as rare today as they were 100 years ago when publisher Elbert Hubbard wrote “A Message to Garcia.” “My heart goes out to the man who does his work when the ‘boss’ is away, as well as when he is at home. And the man who, when given a letter for Garcia, quietly takes the missive, without asking any idiotic questions, and with no intention of chucking it into the nearest sewer, or of doing aught else but deliver it, never gets ‘laid off,’ nor has to go on strike for higher wages. Civilization is one long anxious search for just such individuals. Anything such a man asks shall be granted; his kind is so rare that no employer can afford to let him go. He is wanted in every city, town and village—in every office, shop, store and factory. The world cries out for such: he is needed and needed badly, the man who can carry a message to Garcia."

I actually really loved this article. My husband is definitely like Rowan. I used to think he was being too hard on our only son when he would come to us with a problem and his dad would respond with, "What are you going to do about it?" "Figure it out"  As he got older, Dad would go to him and say, "this needs to be done" and whether he had to Google or Youtube instructions, he would do it. He has since come to his Dad and thanked him for teaching him to solve problems. When he is at work and there is a problem, everyone looks around, but he always jumps in and fixes the problem.

Principle #1: Lead by Example “what manner of men ought ye to be? Verily I say unto you, even as I am."  In your family, your most powerful influence on your children will be the example of your life.  That example includes the actions that you take and the principles and values that guide you.  Your children will watch you very, very closely.  They will learn from you and follow your example—(eventually!).
Principle #2: Lead with Vision On many, many occasions he prefaced a parable with the words, “The kingdom of heaven is like . . .”3 and then He would connect a principle from familiar day-to-day life with salvation in His kingdom.  It may mean teaching them and showing them that staying the course, moving forward despite the pain, is deeply connected to your family’s eternal destiny.
Principle #3: Lead with Love “We love him, because he first loved us.”4 Effective small “L” leaders learn to energize the people around them through love in action.

Comparing this to business makes me realize that our business can be our family too. If we treat others like family, they will return the attitude of caring and be more invested in the future of the business.
