Week 7 Entrepreneurship

  • Which of the 7 habits has the most meaning for you?
I really appreciated the fifth habit, Seek first to understand and then to be understood. I am at a point in my life where some times I think I know everything. I do a lot of interrupting and I have had a few people get frustrated with me. Namely my husband.  We have not been communicating as well as we usually do. I am sure it is because I am going to school now and homeschooling my girls, so I am always busy and I don't have any time for him.
I really need to learn to listen first and then try to be understood so that we can communicate better and clearly.  I have a tendency to avoid confrontations. Lately, a couple of women have hurt my feelings and instead of confronting them, I just avoid them altogether. If I had just tried to hear them out first, all this could have been avoided and we would still be friends.
I really liked Steven Covey's quote, "Seeking to understand requires consideration, seeking to be understood takes courage."  I just don't feel very courageous.
I also liked,  "Most people don’t listen with an intent to understand - they listen with the intent to reply." I can really try to be more conscious of this and work on it.

  • Why will the 7 habits help you fill your life with passion and purpose as you seek to achieve both a private and public victory?
If I can apply all 7 habits  to all areas of my life and be proactive, begin with the end in mind, put 1st things 1st, think win/win, understand and then be understood, synergize, and sharpen my saw, then I will no doubt be freer and happier. I would have to courage to take my schoolwork and my business to the next level if I knew what I wanted to do with it in the long run. I would be more organized instead of running around all day trying to accomplish everything rather than the important things. I believe that I would be happier and kinder to my children and not be so uptight when they don't want to focus on schoolwork.  I think I would be able to contribute more to my ward and be happier about being there.
